1 Reported Dead From Christmas Eve Stabbing on The MAX Platform In SW Portland

The victim was carried by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

What's going on?

According to police and TriMet authorities, a man died from injuries sustained in a stabbing on a MAX station near Providence Park in Southwest Portland.

Just before 6:30 p.m., a stabbing happened on the Providence Park MAX platform, and the victim boarded a westbound train.According to a TriMet spokesman, passengers called for the TriMet operator to stop the train, which came to a rest at the Goose Hollow/SW Jefferson St. MAX station.

At 6:28 p.m., police, fire, and ambulance medics were sent to the Goose Hollow station, where they discovered a guy with a significant stab wound. According to authorities, he was carried by ambulance to a hospital and proclaimed dead.

Police said a suspect was still at large, but they did not feel there was a continuing threat to the public. The police did not go into further detail.

"It is unacceptable for someone to lose their life in a violent crime," Portland Police Chief Bob Day said in a statement. "It's even worse if it happens on Christmas Eve." I can assure the community that our officers and detectives are doing all in their ability to find those responsible on this holiday."

The fatal stabbing was the city's 73rd homicide this year, a decrease from last year's record high of 101 killings.Sunday night, the Goose Hollow MAX station remained closed. TriMet officials and Portland murder detectives went to the scene.
